Photo via TripAdvisor

A little transport revolution has happened in Amalfi Coast with the introduction of a new, fascinating and comfortable mean of locomotion: it is the TramVia, a vintage tram, "trolley tram" model, which will take you to discover the most beautiful places in Campania.
Positano, Praiano, Amalfi, Agerola and Sorrento but not only: thanks to the TramVia you can easily reach the most popular places in the whole region, such as the palace of Caserta, Naples (historic center and Capodichino Airport), the Vesuvius volcano and the archeological ruins in Pompeii and in Herculaneum.

View all the routes here!

The service stands out for punctuality, convenience and efficiency. The staff is friendly, prepared and helpful. On each vehicle, you can find a multilingual guide that will show you the characteristics of the itinerary made and of the cities visited.
Tickets can be purchased at the Pro Loco in Agerola or at Travel Agency called Puerto Viaggio in Piazza Paolo Capasso (Bomerano) Agerola. It is very near to our apartment, Il Rifugio del Cuore.
There are three TramVia stops in Agerola: one in Via Villani 20 (a few steps from il Rifugio del Cuore, near the Path of Gods), one in Viale della Vittoria and one at the Santa Maria crossroads.

In caprese ravioli capri food capri pasta food italian cuisine local food localfood pasta ravioli recipe traditional food want to eat in itly what to eat in amalfi coast

Sunday recipe: Capri's ravioli

At Capri is Sunday. A Sunday of Spring: out there is the sun, the streets smell of lemons and the colors fill your eyes.
The voices from the Piazzetta become a sweet whisper brought by the wind, that is lost in the sound of the steps of a father that goes to buy pastries.

In the kitchen, women are up from dawn, working a mixture.
Experienced and passionate hands form little coffers of water and flour that hold a tasty caciotta and marjoram treasure. The sauce is bubbling leisurely, and soon, with parmesan and basil, will be ready for a taste explosion in the children's mouths.

The ravioli are the symbol of Capri, a tradition that is renewed every Sunday. It means to taste the beauty of the island with your lips, through the genuine products of its land. Capri's ravioli must be eaten smoothly, they want calm. The taste is aggressive and savory at first, broken by the acidic touch of tomato sauce. Gentle and light afterwards, with the aroma of the marjoram that gives the taste.

Want you to turn every day of your life into a beautiful Capri Sunday? Let's see the recipe for 4 people.

For the puff pastry

0,5 Kg of flour type 00
A couple tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
Salt
0,5 Lt of boiling water

For the stuffing

300 gr of dry caciotta
2 eggs
100 gr of grated Parmesan cheese
Marjoram

For condiment
Fresh tomato sauce
A pinch of salt
Grated Parmesan cheese
Olive oil
Fresch basil

In a bowl put flour, oil, salt and boiling water. Then mix everything until you get a smooth and compact paste. Let it rest for half an hour.

In another bowl place the grated caciotta, the eggs, the parmesan and the marjoram. Now, mix the ingredients. Then take a quarter of the pasta for the puff pastry and begin to stretch it with the rolling pin on a flour plan. On half of the puff pastry put tufts  of the stuffing, distant from each other. Use the remaining part of the puff pastry to cover the first with the filling. Proceed with the separation of ravioli with a stencil.

Cook the ravioli in boiling water until they don't start to float, then gently drain to prevent them from breaking. Finally, season them with previously prepared tomato sauce, parmesan cheese and a leaf of basil.

How to move in Amalfi Coast - Part 2: Sita Buses

Moving on the coast, however, can be stressful, especially in Summer, due to the large affluence of tourists, the narrow roads and the high possibility of traffic and queues.
Depending on your needs and your budget there are several options to move freely without stress.

BY SITA BUS

The most used public transportations to travel in Amalfi Coast are SITA buses (you can recognize them from the name on the side of the vehicle, that usually is blue, red or green).
All the coastal cities are well connected by this bus line, which can boast excellent drivers, capable of facing roads that are sometimes winding and narrow, being on the verge of parapets and rocky cliffs. The bus rides are numerous and well distanced (a few hours each from the other).

Bus timetables here (please indicate departure city and arrival city)

Note:
In no situation you can buy the ticket directly on the bus. Tickets are easily available at local bars, tobacconists, newsagents and various vending machines. To those who are not in possession of a valid ticket can be imposed a fine in case of checks.

In real time, the mobile phone will receive the validated dematerialized ticket - so no obliteration is needed - or, for the funicular services, a QR Code that will allow you to open the turnstiles simply by approaching the phone to the turntable reader. #PostoInPiedi

It's the first ticket for busy buses. The "#PostoInPiedi" ticket is available at 50% of the normal ticket cost. It can be used at peak hours when the bus is full and you must to stand in the corridor, not sitting. It can also be used by people who want to surrender their position to seniors and pregnant women.

How to move in Amalfi Coast - Part 1: By feet

The beauty of the landscape, the exquisiteness of the Italian cuisine, the kindness of the local people and the cultural and historical heritage are just some of the reasons that make the Amalfi Coast one of the most popular and appreciated destinations on the international level.
Moving on the coast, however, can be stressful, especially in Summer, due to the large affluence of tourists, the narrow roads and the high possibility of traffic and queues.
Depending on your needs and your budget there are several options to move freely without stress.

ON FOOT

Consider moving by... feet! Of course, in this case, take the usual basic precautions: comfortable shoes and suitable clothing, water, sunscreen and cap, and avoid the sunny hours if it is Summer.
Visiting the Coastal in this way, as well as having the advantage of subtracting you to the traffic jam, is an unique experience that will open exclusive landscapes.

The whole area is inlaid with wonderful nature trails, great for trekking, that from the mountains come to the beaches, some renowned such as the Fjord in Furore, others more hidden, small jewelery jealously guarded by the locals. Also the urban trekking can be fun, and in some cases it is the only choice possible: some areas are only pedestrian, like Piazza Duomo in Amalfi, sometimes reachable only on foot or on the back of donkeys.

Amalfi, Positano and Atrani, the three most famous coastal towns, for example, are characterized by narrow alleys that smell of lemons, ancient stone steps and little pastel houses anchored to the mountain, and it is this that makes these places unique.

If you want to know and explore the Amalfi Coast paths, we suggest you take a look at the following website:

In italian language thingstoknow words

Helpful Italian phrases and words

In my personal experience, many tourists that visite Italy are fascinated not only by its places, its food, its history, and its culture, but also by the language. And they love to try to speak a bold "Buonasera"!

That is why our second post will deal with the most useful Italian words and phrases to know.

Some notes:

Italian words can be rather long (and poetic!). A good tip to pronunce and understand them is to remember that, most of the time, stress falls on the second-to-last syllable. (So “Venezia” is “Ve-NE-zia”; “castello” is “cas-TELL-o”).

“A” is pronounced like the a in father, “i” like the “ee” in greet, and “u” like the u in rule. The vowels “e” and “o” can be open or closed, depending on the word.

Many consonants, instead, sound like their English equivalent. The most important exceptions are:
- the letter “c” before “i” or “e” is pronounced like a “ch”
- “g” before an “i” or “e” is pronounced like the g in “general”
- “h” is always silent
- “r” is almost always rolled
- “z” is pronounced like the “ds” in “lads” at the beginning of the sentence, and like the “ts” in sets in all other cases.

Double consonants can be a bit tricky, but here are some rules: “ch” sounds like the “c” in “car,” “gli” sounds like the “ll” in million, “gn” sounds like the “ny” in “canyon,” and “sc” sounds like the “sh” in “shush” before i and e, and like “sk” in “skip” in all other cases.

Well, now that you are able to pronunce correctly, we can proceed with a quick starter guide to the essential Italian words and phrases.

Common Italian greetings

Buongiorno: Good morning (Usually said until 5pm)
Buona sera: Good evening (Usually said after 5pm)
Buona notte: Good night (Usually said after 10pm, or before going to sleep)
Ciao: Hello or goodbye. A very informal greeting.
Arrivederci: See you. A formal way to say goodbye.

Other common Italian phrases

Per favore: Please
Grazie: Thank you.
Prego: You’re welcome
Mi chiamo…: My name is…
Non parlo italiano: I don’t speak Italian
Parla inglese?: Do you speak English?
Sì: Yes. Other popular affirmations: va bene (fine), okay.
No: No
Dove: Where. You may ask “Dov’è (street or landmark)…?” for directions.
Chi: Who
Quando: When
Cosa: What
Perché: Why

Helpful words for getting around

Treno: Train
Macchina: Car. Also known as auto
Autonoleggio: Car rental
Autobus: Bus. A coach bus is sometimes referred to as pullman
Aeroporto: Airport
Taxi: Taxi
Ristorante: Restaurant
Albergo: Hotel
Banca: Bank. Be sure to ask for a bancomat if you’re looking for an ATM
Aiuto!: Help!
Dov’è il bagno?: Where is the bathroom?
Quanto costa?: How much does it cost?
Che ore sono?: What time is it?
Destra: Right
Sinistra: Left
Dritto: Straight
Vicino: Close
Lontano: Far
Spiaggia: Beach
Biglietti: Tickets

Numbers

Uno (1), due (2), tre (3), quattro (4), cinque (5), sei (6), sette (7), otto (8), nove (9), dieci (10)

Days of the week

lunedì (Monday), martedì (Tuesday), mercoledì (Wednesday), giovedì (Thursday), venerdì (Friday), sabato (Saturday), domenica (Sunday).

Other popular Italian phrases

Allora: Perhaps one of the most popular Italian words, allora is a great way to transition between sentences. It can also be used to start a sentence or question like “so…”, “well…” or “therefore…” and as a reference to a time in the past.
Bello: Literally means “beautiful”, but can also be used to say something is nice, like a dress for example. Bello (for males) and bella (for females) is commonly used as a salutation between friends and acquaintances.
